Seven people had died after participating in the fitness test in South Africa. The cause of the deaths was due to suspected dehydration. There were 90 traffic trainee posts at road traffic inspectorate and when it was advertised nearly 34,000 youngsters applied for the posts. They were asked called in groups of 15,000 to take part in the fitness tests at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Thursday and on Friday by the KwaZulu-Natal traffic department.

Applicants were asked to run four kilometers (2.5 miles) in temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius (86-F). Most of them collapsed from dehydration and heat exhaustion during and after the run. Some received hospital treatment.
